Remarks: This borrowing is described in Bernadette Nelson's 2002 article: see ex. 4, p. 371. Morales has taken a complete four-voice complex from Mouton, consisting of two voices in fuga together with their accompanying "free" voices. Morales'repetition of the borrowed material produces a quasi-NIm, though neither figure taken from the free voices is repeated exactly in its entirety. Only the conclusion of the borrowed material in the bassus is repeated (C-D-E-D in b. 9-10 becomes F-G-G-A-G in b. 12-13, with the addition of an octave leap). Meanwhile, only the skeleton of the borrowed motive in the tenor of b. 9-10 is repeated in the altus of b. 12-13, omitting the cantizans cadence; however, because the added head motive in b. 8-9/11-12 is also repeated, the entrance maintains its identity as a countersubject to the main chant soggetto.

Comment: These two segments based on similar materials are separated by another segment based on borrowed material from Josquin's setting of the analogous chant segment (but without his chant soggetto). This gives this section an overall ABA form in which A contains only borrowed chant material and B contains only borrowed polyphonic material.

Remarks: The chant melody is heard in cantus-firmus fashion three times: first incomplete in the tenor; then complete and ornamented in the cantus; finally complete and unornamented in the tenor. These statements are combined with entrances of a "countersubject" in the other voices, but it does not line up to form modules; instead, it combines with the cantus firmus in varying ways in "contrapunto fugato" fashion. (The first three entrances of the countersubject are periodic, but without enough overlap to produce modular repetition).
